A banner by Parisian ultra fans for high school students sparks strong political reactions

An action by Paris supporters has sparked numerous comments in the French political field, according to Foot Mercato. During a Ligue 1 match where Paris Saint-Germain hosted Le Mans, the Collectif Ultras Paris took a stance in support of high school students by displaying an explicit message in the Auteuil Stand: "Your militias repress, our youth resists."

Tensions and Boycott in the Stands

This banner caused direct friction with the stadium security service. The flag was first removed, then briefly reinstated before being taken down again. In response to these interventions, members of the group left their seats to occupy the walkways for part of the first half. They returned to their stands after halftime, chanting the slogan "Freedom for the ultras."

A National School Crisis

This gesture is at the heart of a student and high school protest that began in mid-September. The demands focus on lack of resources, deterioration of school buildings, overcrowded classes, and the absence of teachers, as well as denunciations against police actions. On October 6, a national day of action mobilized 266,000 participants according to official counts, a figure much lower than that reported by organizers.

Institutionally, the Ministry of the Interior had counted 24 investigations entrusted to the IGPN by October 9. In response to the events, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu stated that "the anger of young people does not come from nowhere," announcing initial resolutions at the end of the month, while an appeal to march is being made for October 17.

Political Class Approvals

Several political representatives have praised the supporters' stance. The mayor of Saint-Denis, Bally Bagayoko, congratulated this "gesture in support of student mobilization" and called for a rally on October 17 for a "convergence of struggles and generations." Senator Ian Brossat as well as Fabien Roussel have also sent their encouragements to the Parisian group. Finally, elected officials Ersilia Soudais and Imane Bounouh have also reacted to this approach.
