Food insecurity reaching emergency levels
According to data relayed by Vant Bèf Info, the Integrated Framework for Food Security Classification released in April 2026 by the National Food Security Coordination estimated that 5.83 million people were suffering from acute hunger between March and June 2026, which is 52% of those evaluated. Of this total affected population, nearly 1.9 million individuals faced an emergency situation corresponding to phase 4. This crisis stems from the actions of armed bands, a decline in vegetable production, and roadblocks that prevent markets from being supplied.
The agricultural issue in Kenscoff amid violence
The difficulties related to armed violence also complicate the transport of vegetable harvests from Kenscoff to Port-au-Prince. The European Union suggests helping these farmers as well, even though this commune is not formally included in the areas covered by this second phase. Hélène Roos, a diplomat representing the European Union in Haiti, highlighted the link between civil peace and progress: "Without security, there can be no development, and without development, security cannot endure."
