In July 2024, while John Textor was demanding Cherki's departure if he did not extend his contract with OL, Paris Saint-Germain had managed to negotiate his transfer for a significantly lower sum: €15 million. Everything was ready, and a medical appointment had even been scheduled.

However, Borussia Dortmund intervened by offering playing time guarantees that PSG could not provide under Luis Enrique's management. Cherki then stalled to evaluate the German club's concrete intentions before finally joining Manchester City.

Cherki had shown a brilliant level of play during a Premier League match against Liverpool the Sunday before his transfer to Dortmund, according to Football.fr. At the time, he was ready for a potential medical examination at PSG and had even addressed Nasser al-Khelaïfi personally.

A source close to the matter revealed that Borussia Dortmund arrived and interrupted the discussions between Cherki and Paris Saint-Germain. The German club offered playing time guarantees, an essential condition for Cherki's entourage that was not met by the situation at PSG.

Consequences

The transfer was finally concluded with Manchester City in August 2024. The player and his entourage took the time to evaluate the offers before choosing the option proposed by Dortmund, which did not work out as planned.
