Gang-related Violence
Gang violence has also resulted in more than 1,000 cases of sexual violence against women and girls since the beginning of the year. Over 230 people have been kidnapped during the same period, according to Volker Türk.
Security Situation
Volker Türk emphasized that gangs continue to expand their presence into new areas of the country, including departments such as the Southeast. He called for a full and accelerated deployment of the Gang Repression Force (FRG) to address this situation.
Impact on the Population
Continuing violence is affecting access to essential services, particularly schools and hospitals. Volker Türk also noted that up to 50% of gang members could be children, underscoring the urgent need to prevent their recruitment.
