More than 1,000 deaths and more than a hundred kidnappings in three months, according to the BINUH
The Integrated Office of the United Nations in Haiti (BINUH) has recorded over 1,000 deaths and more than a hundred abductions between July and September. The UN Special Representative in Haiti, Carlos Ruiz Massieu, praised some initiatives of Alix Didier Fils-Aimé's government during an intervention before the UN Security Council.

Ruiz Massieu notably highlighted measures taken to regulate the electoral competition and the increase in resources allocated to the National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces. However, he also criticized the unrealistic election calendar and the persistence of violence.
The head of BINUH expresses his concern over the attack on Salvadoran members of the Gang Interdiction and Social Intervention Unit (FRG) that occurred on Sunday. He stated that he hopes for a favorable resolution for the affected military personnel without confirming their deaths.
Security and Electoral Context
Ruiz Massieu acknowledges that BINUH's support to governmental institutions does not mean unconditional approval of the government's actions. He underscores the need to review the electoral calendar due to structural deficiencies in the justice system and persistent insecurity.
The head of the UN Support Office in Haiti, Daniela Kroslak, also participated in this intervention. The UN statement calls for reflection on the limits of diplomatic support when security and freedom of movement remain compromised.
