Martine Moïse cites threats at Christian Emmanuel Sanon's trial

The trial of Christian Emmanuel Sanon has opened in U.S. federal court, according to Le Floridien. The 67-year-old doctor and pastor faces eight counts, including conspiracy to kidnap or kill a person outside the United States. Facing life imprisonment, the defendant has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors claim he coveted power in Haiti after the departure of Jovenel Moïse, while his lawyers maintain that he was unaware of any criminal plot.

Testimony of Martine Moïse

According to Haiti24, which cites journalist Luckson Saint-Vil, the former First Lady referred to statements made by Antonio Cheramy around November 18. She also mentioned a photograph showing the latter alongside Christian Emmanuel Sanon to illustrate the climate of tension preceding her husband's death. Furthermore, Le Floridien indicates that Martine Moïse, who was wounded during the July 7, 2021 attack on their Pèlerin 5 residence, is scheduled to be heard as a witness during this trial.

Transfer of suspects to Miami

According to Le Floridien, eighteen suspects incarcerated in Haiti, including seventeen Colombian nationals and Joseph Félix Badio, have been transferred to Florida. They are part of a group of thirty people involved in new charges. The newspaper also recalls that last May, Arcangel Pretel Ortiz, Antonio Intriago, Walter Veintemilla, and James Solages were already found guilty by a U.S. jury.
