OL has expressed its dismay at the treatment its striker received, pointing out that Loïs Openda was subjected to repeated fouls from the opening minutes of the match without receiving sufficient protection. The club believes he was not afforded the necessary protection leading up to the collision that has now ruled him out of action.
The statement emphasizes that preserving the physical integrity of players must remain an absolute priority, and that referees are the primary guarantors of this. Olympique Lyonnais believes that no sufficient disciplinary action was taken during the match against Lens.
Loïs Openda will miss at least four Ligue 1 matches (against Nice, PSG, Angers, and Brest) as well as three Europa League fixtures (against Crystal Palace, Hoffenheim, and Real Sociedad).
Consequences for OL
The injury comes after Openda did not receive adequate protection on the pitch. The club believes this situation must be taken seriously by football's governing bodies.
