Easing of requirements and lower costs
This revision removes the obligation to provide a medical certificate, as well as certifications from the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), the National Old-Age Insurance Office (ONA), and the Industrial Development Fund (FDI). Furthermore, the cost of candidacy is decreasing: the required amounts are dropping from 800,000 to 400,000 gourdes for the Senate, and from 300,000 to 100,000 gourdes for the Chamber of Deputies. The sum required for the presidency remains set at two million gourdes.
Extension of registration and calendar
At the same time, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) is pushing back the deadline for candidate registration to October 31. Although the calendar will need to be updated following the shift in campaign activities, the first round, combining the legislative and presidential elections, remains scheduled for December 13, 2026.
