The World Bank allocates 700 million for digital payments

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a private sector-focused entity of the World Bank Group, has announced the launch of an initiative aimed at facilitating access to electronic payments in emerging markets. Initially, the initiative plans to provide up to 0 million in guarantees to cover part of the risk related to settlement for banks and fintechs.

According to IFC, this initiative is expected to result in an increase of approximately 0 billion in the total volume of digital payments made by participating institutions. It could also lead to the issuance of an additional 360 million cards and the involvement of 90 million new users, with 39 million being women.

IFC estimates that this expansion will improve competition and accessibility of financial services for small businesses, female entrepreneurs, and those still excluded from the formal financial system. In 2025, IFC had already invested .7 billion in private enterprises and financial institutions in emerging countries.
