Haitian businessman Gilbert Bigio dies at 91 years old

Bigio began his business career in 1957 as an associate of a small multi-department store and founded the GB Group in 1972. Over the decades, he developed a diversified conglomerate with investments in energy, fuels, construction, agriculture, food, steel, and logistics.

In the Dominican Republic, Bigio became the majority owner of Texaco operations. In 2012, the GB Group acquired the commercial activities of Chevron-Texaco in the Dominican Republic as well as in other Caribbean countries like Jamaica and Saint-Martin.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 1, in Hollywood, Florida. The passing of Gilbert Bigio marks the departure of an iconic economic figure who significantly contributed to the development of the fuel and energy sectors in the Caribbean.
