Last February, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé had promised to organize elections to restore security and lead the country toward a democratic transition. However, despite several successive decrees, no vote has taken place on the scheduled date.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Raina Forbin had stated before the UN in July that seven out of ten departments were ready for electoral operations. Fils-Aimé reiterated his commitment during the United Nations General Assembly in September, without specifying the date of the vote.
