On Saturday evening, Colley scored the first three goals for Gambia against Ghana. At the 68th minute, he appeared to give an advantage to the Scorpions (the name given to the Gambian national team). According to a report by the Ghanaian public service broadcaster GBC, after captain Gideon Mensah missed his clearance, Colley emerged to score. In extra time, he sealed the victory with an additional goal.
Colley, born in 2000 in Serekunda near Banjul, has had a varied career in various European clubs. He notably played for Hellas Verona and Fatih Karagümrük before joining Young Boys where he became champion in 2024.
The coach of the Scorpions, Johnathan McKinstry, spoke after the match: "When I took over the Gambia team two years ago, we gave nearly thirty-first selections in two years. We have therefore rebuilt our team," he said to Pulse Sports.
McKinstry also explained his strategy against the Black Stars: "Beyond tactics, I understood the culture. When we came back to 2-2, I knew how they would react and that the match would become less controlled for us."
After two consecutive losses at the beginning of October, Carlos Queiroz left his position as coach of the Black Stars by mutual agreement with the Ghanaian federation.
