Dr Lorquet visits Taiwanese institutions

Dr Joël Lorquet, PhD, had a busy day during his official visit to Taiwan. He visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he met with Minister Chia-Lung Lin and Deputy François Chihchung Wu to discuss cooperation opportunities between Haiti and Taiwan.

During a meeting in the ministry auditorium, Dr Lorquet exchanged with the minister on Taiwan's integrated diplomatic initiatives. Minister Lin presented the "Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project," aimed at transforming friendly relations into partnerships based on joint investment and economic cooperation.

Dr Lorquet also visited the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research to reflect on the role of research in Haiti’s development. He toured electronic and toy stores, enriching his understanding of daily life in Taiwan.

Diplomatic Initiatives

Minister Lin highlighted that despite its modest size, Taiwan plays a significant role in global supply chains. He mentioned the cooperation between Taiwanese and American businesses in Guatemala and Belize to illustrate this approach.

Economic Cooperation

Dr Lin explained that Taiwan seeks to leverage its advantages in semiconductor, artificial intelligence, and other advanced technology sectors to create economic partnerships with Haiti. He also discussed Taiwan's crucial role in the United States and Central America.

Democratic Commitment

Minister Lin emphasized that democracy is essential to Taiwan’s international engagement, citing his recent visit with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim to the European Forum for Freedom and Democracy in Italy.
