Ten years after Matthew, the Grand South remains vulnerable

According to the data presented at this meeting, the hurricane caused a particularly severe human and material toll: 546 deaths and approximately two million affected residents. One million four hundred thousand people needed humanitarian aid in the affected areas.
The assessment carried out by ACODDEP indicates that Matthew's passage also led to mass displacement, with 173,500 people displaced. Economically, losses and damages were estimated at two billion eight hundred million dollars. The needs for reconstruction amount to two billion seven hundred twenty million dollars.
