Toppmöller states that his decision to leave is related to tensions with assistant coach Nelson Morgado, who was fired. "I was stunned," he says according to Foot Mercato. Toppmöller maintains that it wasn't wise for the club to part ways with a collaborator without serious misconduct.

He explains that the management told him Morgado was "too demanding, too loud, and in conflict with too many people" and a disruptive factor. Toppmöller says he tried to resolve the issue during a conversation that took place in a harmonious atmosphere.

"The management told me they considered this step necessary, otherwise they would have had to break ties definitively," he adds. Toppmöller refused to let go of his assistant, which led to his own resignation from the club.
