Demi Vollering wins the world cycling title
Demi Vollering became world champion in cycling this Saturday in Montreal by winning the women's road race at the World Championships. The Dutch cyclist out-sprinted Katarzyna Niewiadoma and Elisa Longo Borghini to claim her first rainbow jersey.

Vollering, who was heavily favored before the event, launched a solo attack with 38 kilometers left in the race. She was later caught by Niewiadoma and Longo Borghini. The Pole and the Italian led until the final lap when Vollering came back to win the title.
Juliette Berthet, the first Frenchwoman in the race, finished fifth.
The competition took place over an unusually long distance of 180 km according to RFI — Sports. The race was spectacular and full of suspense with repeated attacks and a demanding urban circuit.
"I had this dream in my head, I still find it hard to believe," Marlen Reusser said after the race.
