According to Rezo Nòdwès, these organizations gathered during workshops held on September 10 and 11, 2026. They expressed their concerns regarding the risk that these decrees could hinder the exercise of freedom of expression and limit access to justice for high-ranking state officials.

The signatories believe, in particular, that these measures could be used as tools of intimidation against those who investigate human rights violations or denounce acts of corruption. They also emphasize that they risk slowing down judicial proceedings against high-ranking officials involved in corruption cases.

Demands made

The organizations are calling for the immediate repeal of these decrees, considering that their application could hinder democracy and respect for fundamental rights in Haiti. They also highlight the need for a legal framework that fully guarantees public freedoms while fighting against abuses.

Context

The decrees are perceived as a threat to freedom of the press and the right to openly criticize the authorities. The organizations point out that these concerns are particularly relevant in a context marked by recurring threats against journalists and human rights defenders.
